But contrary to this simplified belief, tea blending is as old as the art of tea-making itself! The Chinese have been blending teas with different herbs and medicinal plants for centuries now.
Why blend the teas?
Well, there are two main reasons why the tea blending began.
- BEING CREATIVE WITH THE TEAS
The early tea makers or tea enthusiasts blended teas to add new flavors to the teas. Not just the flavors, but for aromas and also for medicinal purposes. Like everything beautiful, tea too awakened the creativity and fun side of the tea enthusiasts.
- STAYING CONSISTENT
Tea is an agricultural crop. And like any other crops, teas have their time and season. So, to be consistent with the flavors and types all year long, different ingredients are blended to reach that consistency.
